Tais Szilagi (mezzo-soprano) is a NYC based crossover artist and educator. Tais completed her Bachelors of Music from the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College where she performed roles including L’enfant (L’enfant et les Sortileges), Meg Paige (Falstaff), Marchesa Melibea (Il Viaggo a Reims) and Maddalena (Rigoletto) with the Brooklyn College Opera Theater under the baton of Maestro Richard Barrett and covered the role of Nicklausse with The Martina Arroyo Foundation. Tais recently made her Off-Broadway debut in Truffles: A Jazz Murder Mystery where she played the role of Olga Donati. Tais also performed in Loftopera’s critically acclaimed production of Macbeth as a witch. Tais has premiered close to twenty original compositions by emerging composers and performed in the International Electro-Acoustic Music Festival. Tais released a pop single “Flowers Falling” with music label Joma Music Inc. which Norman Lebrecht (slippedisc.com) called a “cooler aria”. She recently returned from Sydney, Australia where she studied acting at the Sydney Drama School and classical voice with renowned Armenian soprano Arax Mansourian. Tais has been on faculty as a voice, flute, theater and theory teacher at Belle Arti School of Music, Willan Academy of Music and Rome Piano Studio. She served as the theater/choral director at The Delaware Valley Performing Arts Camp and was the music director of Creative Coexistence in Brooklyn.
